tobia:
These are the last 12 frames of the animation I’ve been working on for the last three weeks. I still have seven more to complete the action. Overall? I’m underwhelmed. It’s a given that, due to my attempting an animation for the first time, the end result would be very amateur; but that is not what worries me. I find there is nowhere for this to go, which slightly irritates me. I wanted to explore mor black on black drawing with this material, but it seems that scanning these drawings takes away the very material essence of each of them which makes them so interesting. It’s as if by my flattening them to this digitalized, animated form I am stripping them of the luscious and captivating luminosity and presence that can only be experienced by looking at them as objects is a long sequenced polyptych, not necessarily on a screen. I haven’t ruled out trying this method with my traditionally known surface of choice: white paper with black ballpoint pen ink. However, when it comes to these black surfaces and grounds, I’m not quite sure if the medium comes across in a favorable (or should I say “appealing”) light? To be continued.
