Forty Acres of Bandaids (Every Shade of Bandaid for Sale Within Forty Acres of the African Burial Ground), Suzanne Broughel, 2002
3’ x 3’
Every (skin) shade of bandaid for sale within forty acres of Manhattan’s African Burial Ground was purchased. The result was 23 shades, including dark brown Ebonaide brand bandaids found at a 99 Cent Store. The bandaids were used to make this mandala-like wall sculpture - with the dark brown bandaids forming the center and outline.
This work was exhibited at PS1/ MOMA as part of “Bearable Lightness…Likeness” curated by Franklin Sirmans. It was also part of the exhibition “Things Fall Apart” at Rush Arts Gallery, curated by Derrick Adams.-via the tART Collective
