7–9 PM
Emerging out of the New York City House/Ballroom community, the Kiki scene is a highly organized and youth-led organization, which allows for an expression of the style and talent that epitomises many young people of colour currently navigating the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community in NYC. At the center of the underground Kiki scene are the Kiki balls, where the performers create unique looks related to a theme and compete for their Kiki house.
Artist Sara Jordenö and ballroom performer Twiggy Pucci Garçon host “The Movement Ball” with members of the Kiki Scene alongside a preview of their “in progress” documentary, Gesture. A celebration on the occasion of the opening ofARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Magazine Store in collaboration with Document Journal, and Faces NY, Inc. and Damiani, in what will be the first ever public presentation of this underground scene.
